Holidays Over, Sameness IN

How I’m Doing.

That was kind of a wild two week run.

Family in Tennessee and then Virginia then back to Ohio. I almost drove 20 hours in one week. Holidays were good, but what happened to the relaxing ones I remember?

Then when I came back, it was getting your life put back together before getting back to work. I have quite the nice schedule put together — consistent, easy, chill buildings. Love it.

What I’m Playing.

Octopath Traveller ★★★★★

So this is a replay, but I think I love it the second time around when before I was more lukewarm.

The music in this game is a killer.

Second, the storytelling is much better than I remember it for. When I played Octo the first time, I felt like the game was only good in the beginning, when you are introduced to all eight, and at the end, when all the stories criss-cross.

I have a much greater appreciation for all the small details and intertwining people that live in this world the second time around.

Before, I was playing a lot of games to “complete” it. Time was scarce, get it done, move on to the next one in the list.

Now, I’m kind of settling with things a bit more. I’m reading many more of the quick bios. I’m making connections between the tertiary characters and seeing them move around from town to town.

Love it.

What’ I’m Reading.

Emperor’s Soul ★★★★★

A novella by Brandon Sanderson, it was nice to get a full open and shut story that only took part of an afternoon.

I really liked Shai, the magic, the mystery, the set up.

My new year resolution is to read the Cosmere. I have some of a head start: I’ve read the Mistborn Trilogy and Elantris. I found a flow chart for suggested reading and I’m navigating my way through.

Up next – Way of Kings. 1100 pages? The opposite of this novella 🙁

I have some apprehension even though I have loved anything this man has wrote. Another 10 book series all 1000 pages or more?

Am I really going to do this again?

Only five of the books are released. What if pulls a Martin? Unlikely, but still. What if his health goes the way of Jordan? I have this fear of being stuck in the middle of a series without the author producing. They have no obligation to finish or continue or crank out anything ofc. I just like my series to be wrapped up and done so I can go about it at my own pace with a peaceful mind that it is done.

Well, I’m going to take the jump either way…already have!
