What I’m Doing
My boyfriend’s family always likes A destination holiday. I prefer to be a bump on a log.
This year, it was Pigeon Forge – redneck Las Vegas.
I guess Dollyworld was okay, but I’m not sure I like anything other the occasional view of the mountains.
What I’m Playing
Cobalt Core ★★★★★
YESSS.
I had a talk with ChatGPT. I have picked so many games recently that aren’t for me. What should I be looking for? Here are my screening questions for games going forward:
From now on, if a game doesn’t clearly answer yes to these, it’s a skip:
Can I tell why I failed within seconds? Does learning the system make me tangibly stronger? Are choices meaningful but bounded? Do I feel smarter after each run/battle?
Cobalt Core has been on my radar for sometime. It’s like Slay the Spire but with space ships and Star Fox characters.
Love it.
What I’m Reading
Blade of the Reaper, J.N. Chaney ★★★☆☆
The main problem with Dollyworld is that I don’t like rollercoasters or thrill rides. My future mother in law was adamant that we spend the whole day at the park as if we came from the other side of the Earth to Mecca. Oh, and we have to stay until the light show.
I really like this book, and the Reaper series as a whole so far, because it knows what it is. It’s pulp sci-fi, quick and plucky and action. It stays true to itself.
I can also read it while country Christmas music is being blasted in my ear.
